Being first is not as important as being nice. And being pushy and mean can hurt someone and hurt their feelings.

Me First
by Helen Lester

Pinkerton the pig always manages to be first, on the playground... at lunch... on the bus...

Until one day on a scout picnic, he says he'd like to be first when asked "who would care for a sandwich".  Pinkerton discovers it's not exactly the kind of sandwich one would eat and learns it's not always best to be first.
